Sacramento County deputies are working a gun violence incident that unfolded on April 18 2026 at Howe Park in click here Sacramento just as law enforcement were shutting down an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.
What Led to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at the park on Howe Avenue just after 6:30 Saturday evening after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. After that, a follow-up call was made describing a possible physical fight happening within the park grounds.
A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, it was evident that several hundred individuals had come together at the location without official sanction.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Deputies began the process of clearing the park by encircling the gathering and broadcasting over loudspeakers commanding the assembled crowd to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were provided for the crowd to leave.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were fired. The shots sent hundreds fleeing. Law enforcement swiftly started locating gunshot victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
In total, four individuals were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their twenties — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four were expected to survive.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived on scene and provided medical assistance those with gunshot wounds on location.
Evidence at the Scene
The primary shooting scene appears to have unfolded near Cottage Way close to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel located additional shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Round impacts were also found in the metal fencing alongside the Home Depot store. These findings indicated that one of the gunmen had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives kept processing evidence for hours.
Suspect Information
Information relayed through scanner monitoring showed that a Kia had been stopped in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were taken into custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to transport the detainees for investigation. Video evidence made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
